Looking at some new Ariat half chaps? Use this guide to make sure you order the perfect pair...

To fit half chaps, you'll need the following:

  • The breeches, socks, and boots you usually wear to ride, or clothes that are similar to what you normally ride in.

  • A chair with a flat, straight back.

  • A flexible tape measure made of vinyl or fabric.

How to find your size

For the best accuracy, ask someone to help you measure.

  1. Wear the same breeches, socks, and boots you wear when you ride (or at least similar to what you normally wear). This will help you get the best possible fit.

  2. Sit down on a flat, sturdy chair. Your legs should be at a 90-degree angle and your feet should be flat on the floor.

  3. Write down the width measurement you get by wrapping the flexible tape measure around the widest part of your calf (this is where your helper comes in handy!)

  4. Then, measure the length of your calves from the floor to the back of your knee. Take the height of your boot heels away from this number.

Now that you have your measurements, you can use Ariat's Half Chaps Sizing Chart to find your size.

First, find your calf size in the column on the far left. Your calf size may be written in more than one row.

Once you've found the row(s) with your correct calf side, look in the column to the right for your height measurement. When you find the point where your calf measurement and your height meet, that's your size.

What do these letters for sizes mean? The sizes on the size chart are listed from XXS to XL by calf size. How do you know which Size Height to pick? The size you got from the size chart might have an extra letter besides the calf size.

Short = S

M = Mid

T = Tall

Frequently Asked Questions

How do half chaps need to fit?

At first, half chaps will fit snugly around the calf and high on the back of the knee. Half chaps will give and drop a little bit as time goes on. They might even be hard to zip at first, but they will get easier to zip as time goes on.

Should the fit of my half chaps be tight?

When they are new, half chaps will feel tight around the calf, but over time they will stretch, loosen up, and drop a bit.

Can any pair of boots be worn with Ariat's half chaps?

Chaps made by Ariat are made to fit most paddock boots. The fit will be more flexible if the stretch panel on the chap style is bigger. Some of our chap styles, like the Kendron and Ascent collections, are meant to go with certain paddock boots because they are made of the same leather and have the same design features.
